Reach Out and Read
Fostering Imaginations – Supporting the children at CHOP, one story at a time
In October 2012, Alpha Systems collected over 200 books at the National AHIMA conference in Chicago, IL. These books helped to fill patient and family libraries and encourage children to read at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). We are very thankful to all that got involved in this activity at AHIMA. Everyone truly made a difference in a child’s life. Alpha Systems continually accepts new or gently used books to donate the CHOP. So far, over the last year and a half, we have sent over 600 books to the hospital to help Reach out and Read with their goal to provide books to children in the Philadelphia area.
‘Reach out and Read’ is a national program that prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. During our visit to the hospital, we learned that CHOP’s ‘Reach Out and Read’ program needs 75,000+ books a year to enable each child gets 2 books per year. Currently, CHOP only gets about 45,000 so our donation really helped their cause. In the future, please keep the children of CHOP in mind and continue to donate to the 'Reach and Read' program.
